Not that I am a practising alcoholic, however I do like some traditional and not so traditional English pubs. Recent visits have included -

The Plough - Ley Green Nr Offley.

We cycled out to this pub on a hot October (2005) summer Saturday. The last time I had visited it was about 20 years and half expected it to have turned into a residential property. We were pleasantly surprised to find it in ' a healthy state'. It is a really interesting pub with a large garden. The pub has retained a lot of its original features and has a good range of beers (Greene King, Adnams). Well worth a visit.

The Prancing Pony - South Bedfordshire

Discovered this place whilst out walking (off the beaten track)- I am not going to give the location as if it gets too popular it will spoil its attraction - you'll have to find it yourself!. So what's this attraction? - Well it is quite small, serves strong beers, ciders and lagers at very fair prices, has the 'resident old  male tosser' who will pass his opinion on most things. Bizarrely the bar staff will quite often come and join you for a drink!- as if they had nothing better to do. No food is served at present and opening hours are erratic. On my visits I  haven't seen a hobbit yet but there is still time....
